Job Description

 

Job Title: Mechanic

Division: Shop Foreman/General Manager

 

Summary: Repair trucks and other vehicles. Mechanics repair virtually any part on the vehicle or specialize in the transmission system.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Test drive vehicles and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
  2. Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
  3. Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes.
  4. Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  5. Confer with Parts Manager and/or customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements.
  6. Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  7. Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine cooling, and electrical systems.
  8. Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
  9. Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors.
  10. Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies, such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages.
  11. Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience.
  12. Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  13. Repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
  14. Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
  15. Repair manual and automatic transmissions.
  16. Uses proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  17. To clean up after one’s self and or others daily to keep a clean, efficient and safe work environment at all times.
  18. Watch over building’s shared tools, equipment, supplies to ensure it is properly functioning, stored, stocked or otherwise in working order
  19. List ALL parts used (filter, zip tie, fitting, etc.) on customer workorders, daily.
  20. All other duties as assigned.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software.

 

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

· Air conditioning certification preferred

· Valid driver's license

· Vehicle scanner

· Welding tools

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
